- On Monday 2 November 2009, the Tax Group hosted a lunch for visiting Harvard Law School Professor Alvin Warren. Professor Warren is the Ropes & Gray Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, where he has taught tax law and policy since 1979. He is a leading tax scholar in the United States and he spoke informally on Tax Reform in the US.

- On Wednesday 17 June 2009, the Tax Group hosted a free public seminar with visiting Professor Joel Slemrod from the University of Michigan. Professor Slemrod was in Australia to provide advice to the Treasury on the Henry Tax Review into Australia's Future Tax System due to report at the end of 2009. He discussed recent research he has carried out on US business attitudes to fundamental US tax reform.
- Melbourne Law School will be hosting the Australian Tax Research Foundation's Housing & Taxation Symosium on 11 February 2009. - Associate Professor Miranda Stewart visited Brooklyn Law School in New York to present at the Legal Norms Conference, and gave a lecture on tax policy networks at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
- The Annual Tax Lecture will be presented by His Hon. Justice Michael Kirby, from the High Court of Australia on 20 August 2008. Justice Kirby will be speaking about Sham In Tax Law After Raftland v Commissioner of Taxation. For further information, click here.
- On 2 April 2008, the Tax Group, in conjunction with the Centre for Corporate Law and Securities Regulation, will be conducting a workshop on employee share ownership in small to medium sized enterprises. This workshop is part of the ARC funded project, 'Employee Share Ownership Plans: Current Practice and Regulatory Reform'.
- Sir Ivor Richardson, former president of the New Zealand Court of Appeal and member of the Privy Council, will be visiting Melbourne Law School and presenting in the Melbourne Law Masters subject, Current Issues in Tax, on 3 April 2008. Sir Ivor will be speaking on the topic of the New Zealand Tax Law Re-write.
- Associate Professor Lisa Philipps of Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada, is arriving at Melbourne Law School on Monday 17 March 2008 as a visiting scholar. During her time here, Associate Professor Phillips will co-teach the Melbourne Law Masters subject, Fiscal Reform and Development, with Associate Professor Miranda Stewart, and will present in the Law School's Research Worksop Series on the topic 'Helping out in the Family Firm: The Legal Treatment of Unpaid Market Labor'.
- Associate Professor Miranda Stewart, Co-Director of Taxation Studies at Melbourne Law School, participated in the Indigenous Communities, Economic Development and Tax Policy Symposium on 26 & 27 February 2008, part of the Agreements, Treaties and Negotiated Settlements (ATNS) Project. Associate Professor Stewart chaired a session on Legal Structures and Economic Development and presented during a session on Tax Regimes, Models and Options for Indigenous Employment and Business Opportunities.
- Dr Michael Kobetsky recently traveled to Tokyo, Japan to present a paper on 'Transfer Pricing: Principles and Practice' to tax officials from developing countries at the Asian Development Bank Tax Conference, from the 8th to the 11th of October. For more information, click here.
- In September, Associate Professor Ann O'Connell, Co-Director of Taxation Studies at Melbourne Law School, travelled to Sheffield in the United Kingdom to attend the Annual Tax Research Network Conference and present a paper on the Australian approach to countering tax evasion, with a particular focus on Project Wickenby.
- In late June, Associate Professor Miranda Stewart, Co-Director of Taxation Studies, attended an academic symposium at the Said Business School, Oxford. Associate Professor Stewart is an International Research Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Business Taxation at the Said Business School. The symposium was attended by other International Research Fellows and invited delegates from around the world. Associate Professor Stewart presented a paper on Tax Law and Political Institutions. In May, Sunita Jogarajan, Lecturer in the Tax Group, attended the 4th Annual Asian Law Conference held at the University of Indonesia, Jakarta. The conference was attended by over 1,000 delegates from all over the world. Sunita presented a paper on the Indian tax system and foreign direct investment. In particular, the paper used India as a case study to look at the influence of tax incentives and tax treaties on foreign investment into developing countries.
- On 19 April 2007, Professor John Tiley CBE of the University of Cambridge presented the third Annual Tax Lecture on the topic "Managing Tax Avoidance: Recent UK Experience". His lecture is now available for download.
